WBO super middleweight African champion Emmanuel Martey is lined up to face the winner of the vacant commonwealth super middleweight title between Tommy Langford and Lerrone Richard which comes off 27th April at the SSE Wembley Arena, London, UK.
The Commonwealth Boxing Council (CBC) has approved exactly 90 days of mandatory defence of the champion of the two to fight for the WBO African Champion. The venue for the fight is yet to be decided by the CBC.
Preferably the Ghanaian contingent and Team Martey will relish the fight being staged in Accra.
Martey (14-0, 10KO) who recently moved from number 10 to occupy the 9th position in the WBO super middleweight rankings is set to fight on an undercard of the Aborigines promotional bill which was postponed to April 19 at the Aborigines resort in the Volta region of Ghana with an opponent yet to be announced.
Martey dispatched Emmanuel Anim with a majority decision in a Commonwealth eliminator on March 2018 in a nerve wracking collision. Martey again stopped Sunday Ajuwa from Nigeria by a technical knockout to win the WBO super middleweight Africa strap.
However, it must be noted that it’s been almost seven months since Martey annexed the strap without a defence.
