Daniel Somotey, a boxer who migrated from Accra to Swedru has called on the Ghana Boxing Authority and the Ghana Boxing Federation to consider having scouting events in other regions to extend the reach of the sport.

In his own words

“Boxing is really taking form, but I see boxing is becoming available for all, the showing of boxing events on TV is making it popular among the Youth.

The leaders in the sport (GBA/GBF) and promoters should work together to expand the sport in the regions so that boxers in all regions will have scouts and develop the sport in all other areas.”

Daniel Somotey, like many boxers had to move to Accra to realize their boxing dreams.

Coach Zicco, Head Coach of the SeaView Boxing Club has expressed his willingness to relocate to a different region if given the resources and pledged that within a year, he will discover a champion boxer.

He said “I am willing to relocate to Tamale to scout for talents to develop the sport. With support and the right equipments, I can raise Champions at both amateur and Professional.”

Two years ago, the National Sports Authority employed a number of boxing coaches and posted them to various regions; Elvis Robertson was sent to the Eastern Region whereas Frank Asante-Addo was sent to the Volta Region. What efforts are being made by these people to unearth boxing talents in other regions?

Are these new talents effectively supported to have them display their skills?

Coach Nii Larbie of Will Power Gym in Accra has urged boxing coaches to take initiatives and move to other regions to start private gyms like we have in Accra.

He said: “there are Clubs with more than 6 coaches in one gym with few boxers. Some of the coaches should move outside Accra and start something.”

He further requested that Chiefs and leaders in regional authorities should also support posted coaches to help develop the sport in their regions.
