Democratic Republic Congo wins bid to host the Africa Elite Men’s and Women’s Boxing

The African Boxing Confederation (AFBC) has congratulated the Democratic Republic of Congo for winning the bid to host the Africa Elite Men’s and Women’s Boxing Championships in Kinshasa from October 14 to 26.

In his congratulatory message on behalf of AFBC, the Secretary-General of the African body, Bililign Mekoya, said by hosting the tournament, the DRC will have a golden chance to showcase its cultural heritage and enhance it’s international image as well as fostering strong ties with other African countries.

“The African Boxing Confederation is thrilled to extend our heartfelt congratulations to DRC for being selected to host the 2024 Africa Boxing Championships,” said Mekoya.

“The esteemed opportunity is a resounding testament to your nations unwavering resilience, passion and unparalleled commitment to the development of sports in the African continent.

“We expect you to deliver an event that will not only inspire but also ignite a fervent participation of youth in sports across the continent.”

Cameroon hosted last year’s Africa Elite Championships in the capital city Yaounde. Morocco won the event with eight gold, two silver and three bronze medals followed by DRC on five gold, six silver, four bronzes with Algeria finishing third by collecting four gold, two silver and one bronze. Cameroon was fourth with two silver, two bronze and eight bronze medals.
