Commey vs Lomachenko: Ghana’s Richard Commey Out to Prove Doubters Wrong

Ghanaian boxer Richard Oblitey Commey has expressed his readiness to prove his doubters wrong when he mounts the ring on December 11 agaisnt three-weight division kingpin – Vasyl Anatoliyovych Lomachenko.

The former IBF lightweight world champion, is all but ready to turn around his boxing career as he returns to the Madison Square Garden in Las Vegas for the 12-round lightweight showdown.

After successful wins over Isa Chaniev [Round 2, TKO] and Ray Beltrán [Round 8, KO], Commey surrendered his IBF lightweight title to Teófimo López via round 2 [TKO] at the Madison Square Garden on December 14, 2019.

The hard punching Ghanaian, however, returned after nearly 14 months off the ring to knock out Jackson Marinez in six rounds on February 13, 2021.

Commey [30-3, 27 KOs], despite being one of the most dangerous punchers in the lightweight division goes into this particular bout as the underdog.

And according to the Ghanaian boxer, he is not only ready for the big challenge ahead, but also ready to prove all his doubters wrong while making his country proud:

“I want to thank my team of Michael Amoo-Bediako, Lou DiBella, and Keith Connolly for getting me this opportunity,” Commey stated.

“Ever since the Lopez fight, all I have thought about is becoming a two-time world champion.
This fight against Lomachenko will get me one step closer to my goal.

“I also want to thank Bob Arum and Top Rank for the opportunity to again grace the stage at Madison Square Garden, one of boxing’s most iconic venues.

“I know that most people consider me the underdog, but I am aiming to prove them all wrong and make Ghana proud once again,” the Ghanaian concluded.

The bout is Promoted by Top Rank, in association with DiBella Entertainment and tickets, starting at $56 go on sale from Today(November 2) at 12 p.m. ET.

The winner of this Vasiliy Lomachenko vs. Richard Commey fight is most likely to have a shot at the division’s world title  next year.
