Commey loses title to Lopez by round 2 TKO

Ever vocal Teofimo Lopez Snr, father of Teofimo lopez and son were so elated on the night after scoring a round two TKO of Richard Commey who by far the most experienced of the two to become the new champion for the IBF lightweight world champion.

Commey 32, (29-3, 26 KOs) rather came into the ring with a calm demeanour very focused on the fight looking to successfully defend his title and unify with Vasily Lomachenko but that did not see the light of day.

Commey started round one on good footing, landing decent jabs and straight right hand in the process.

The round two saw another impressive start from Commey but big left hook from Lopez to the head, wobbled Commey and then momentarily a big canter right hand from lopez to the chin of Commey crashing him to his knees as both men look to landing same punch but Lopez got him first and counted by refree David Fields. Lopez opened a flurry of several left right combinations to the head of Commey sending him to the ropes. David Field quickly held Commey and waved his hands to call the fight off.

Lopez 22, (15-0, 12 KOs) in his traditional celebration back flipped and raised his hands in celebration of his win.”I’m at a loss for words right now. This is a dream come true,” Lopez said. “Commey is a bad man. His shot could’ve done the same to me if he hit me with that shot.” He added.

Now all looks set for the April 2020 unification fight between the unified champion Vasily Lomachenko who currently holds the WBA, WBO and the WBC franchise title.
“You all know who I want to fight next — 2020 is going to be a big year. ‘The Takeover’ has arrived, and you haven’t seen anything yet,” Lopez said.

Lomachenko 31, (14-1, 10 KOs) was at ringside to watch the fight and to see who his next opponent will be. “We want to unificate four titles, now he is a champion and now he is in the position to fight me now. Lomachenko said. We have a fight let see how it goes.
