Benard started his boxing career at the Accra Community Gym aka Will Power Boxing Club under the guidance of the late Coach Napoleon Tetteh. According to Benard, after 4 amateur fights he run into some hurdles and could not continue as a boxer. However, he decided not to let the skills his acquired root away.

In his own words “This is how my journey to becoming a coach began, I became Coach Napoleon’s assistant and trained with him for nearly a decade and a half until his demise. After his death, I continued to train with the team, but I wanted to help my community so I started Chorkor Champs”.

Chorkor Champs hopes to bring back the old glory days of boxing with icons such as Wonder Tackie and Alfred Cobra Kotey as their inspiration.

The club currently focuses on Amateur Boxing with twelve Juveniles and seven elite boxers in camp.

The club started in 2017 and has already begun seeing progress evident in its performance since 2021.

Some of their boxers won awards in the Besasaka boxing competition, Godfred Kotey was best boxer and promising boxer went to C. P Oko. Meanwhile, George Nortey earned a spot on the national Youth Team.

Despite the above achievements, the club lacks basic training equipments as they have only 1 punching bag and a couple of gears.

Benard Armah has revealed that the club is occasionally being supported by members of the community. Recently Gold Star Ghana donated nose masks and face shields to the club. However, they need support in the forms of boxing equipments like punching bags, gloves, headgear, and a standard ring.

The coach asked for financial support to keep boxers in school.

The club trains beside the Chorkor Community Hospital at Alomo Junction, Chokor, Accra.

Paul Balungu, a boxer at the gym reiterated that Coach Benard has been very good to him since he joined the club. He revealed “My “Cochiee” helps me a lot, he teaches me how to box, gives me fighting equipments and money for food”

Paul has earned two certificates for participating in tournaments and he is grateful.

A fan of the Club at the premises who observes their training, identified as Ashitey PRO expressed delight at the progress of the club. He revealed that he comes daily to support because he believes in the vision of the club and his confidence in the future of Ghana Boxing.
