Charles Tetteh in 2022 was adjudged the best boxer of the maiden season of the Ghana Professional Boxing League.

On Monday, December 26, 2022, Charles Narh Tetteh defeated John Quaye aka ‘Magic Man’ by a unanimous decision. Charles won on all cards of the judges in the much-anticipated bout 98-91, 99-89, 97-92.

Charles Narh Tetteh, who trains with the Panix Gym in Accra made his first appearance in the Ghana Professional Boxing League (GPBL) Promoted by Imax Promotions in collaboration with the Ghana Boxing Authority, against Nathaniel Nukpe, his first fight ever since he won the National Super Featherweight title and best boxer in 2022.

The nineteen-year-old National Champion threw the first punch of their fight unleashing several devastating punches on Nukpe in the opening round.

Round two was no different as he kept punching Nukpe who was now looking more stationary than a punching bag. It was not a surprise he retired, refusing to return when the bell rang for round 3.

The fans at the Bukom Boxing Arena were unhappy with Nukpe’s performance, booing at him as he walked out of the Arena, giving Charles Tetteh a win by a round 3 TKO.

The bout was a 10 round lightweight contest.

Charles Tetteh, the current National super featherweight champion’s contest against Nukpe explains why it was not a title defense as it was a lightweight contest.

In as much as Charles Tetteh had a round 3 TKO victory over Nukpe, it’s not likely to benefit Tetteh with regard to Boxrec rankings since the fight was against a lowly rated pugilist who’s almost lost as much as he’s won (13-12).

Charles Tetteh, according to Boxrec is currently ranked 9th out of 29 boxers fighting in the lightweight division in Ghana and 930th globally. Sheriff Quaye is ranked number 1 whereas Nathaniel Nukpe is ranked 11th, below Charles Narh Tetteh in the national rankings according to Boxrec.

Ghanaian lightweight rankings according to Boxrec

Charles Tetteh needs to target opponents within the 1st to 8th positions to improve his rating on Boxrec.

Stakeholders in Ghana Boxing circles have recently called out Boxrec for treating Ghanaian boxers unfairly.
