Hon. Wallace Nii Tackie-Komme, Chairman of the Greater Accra Boxing Association after his sworn commitment to helping the girl child knock out teenage pregnancy in the country went on a visit to James Town and Chorkor to meet with some girls who showed interest in the art of boxing.
With prior approval from the parents of the selected children to go through the learning and training process, Hon Tackie-Komme was poised with his visit as the turn out came as a surprise with many households adjudging boxing as the boys’ job.
Talking to some of the parents about their take on allowing their daughters to choose this path as a career, majority of them stated they have been lovers of the sport and did not know how to engage their wards because they thought they needed a huge sum of money to enroll them in the gyms around.
After Hon. Tackie-Komme’s visit to James Town and Chorkor, he assured the parents who gathered that the initiative of GABA to engage the girlchild in the boxing art is not only for the fame but to mentally build their capacity in the society and also in a dignifying sport.
Before the GABA chairman took a leave of the children, he ensured they observed all the COVID-19 protocols and took a shot with them as the parents kept lauding him and the entire association for their assistance to help secure a future for the girlchild as well as fight teenage pregnancy which impairs the ability of many girls to pursue their dreams.
