Multiple-time world champion in three weight classes, Saul Canelo Alvarez improved his records to 52 wins, 2 drawn and only a single defeat in his 55 career bouts to unify the middleweight division with a points victory over former IBF champion Daniel Jacobs in Las Vegas this morning.
The three Judges scored the fight 115-113, 115-113, 116-112 in favour of Canelo after 12 rounds. The Mexican was pleased with his performance.
“It was just what we thought, we knew he was going to be a difficult fighter, It was just what we thought because of the style of fight that he brings, but we just did our job.” Saul Canelo Alvarez said.
On a possible third time re-match with Kazakhstani fighter Gennedy Golovkin, the Guadalajara, Jalisco born was bullishly emphatic.
“If he (Golovkin) wants to do it again, I’ll beat him again.” Canelo stated.
The self styled ‘Miracle Man’ Daniel “Danny” Jacobs was equally magnanimous in defeat, as he paid homage to the Mexican fighter.
“He’s a tremendous champion, I take my hat off to him, I definitely think it took me a couple of rounds to get my wits about me. I feel like I gave enough to get the victory, but I’ve got to go back to the tapes and see what happened.” The American stated in his post fight interview.
This is Álvarez’s second victory since signing a five-year, 11-fight contract worth a minimum of $365m with the streaming service DAZN.
In attendance was Golovkin, who was least impressed with the output of the two fighters.
“It was a little boring because they are both high-level boxers. They should give more to the audience, the boxing community. I didn’t see any emotions. I didn’t see anything special. Just a good sparring match.” He expressed.
