Boxing Saved My Life After I Dropped Out Of School. – Alfred Lamptey
Former national Super Featherweight champion, Alfred Lamptey (13-1-0) has disclosed that after he dropped out of school in class four, he had nothing to do, so he had to train hard to become a boxer, champion and a mentor.
He has also held the Universal Boxing Organization (UBO) African Featherweight title, West African Boxing Union (WABU) Featherweight title, WBC Youth Silver Super Featherweight title and WBO Youth Super Featherweight title.
Speaking to Yours Truly on The Big Fight Night on Omashi TV on Friday, he gave much credit to his local manager, Alex Ntiamoah-Boakye and Coach Ebenezer Adjei.
According to him his coach has guided him since he was a teenager till now and they are planning for bigger challenges.
Alfred Lamptey 22, who trains at the Black Panthers Gym at James Town named American Devin Haney as his favourite boxer and recalled the SWAG Awards in 2022 when he won the Boxer of the Year as his most memorable moment.
He expressed that Tanzanian boxer Iddi Kayumba whom he knocked in round 10 was his toughest opponent.
He revealed that he was formerly known as the ‘Black Spider’ then to ‘Bukom Bomber’ and now ‘ShowTime’ which was given to him by Sheriff Quaye also called ‘One Time’.
“I did not fight many amateur bouts due to the way amateurs are treated in Ghana. It takes a long time before they are recognized and they do not get the much needed exposure” he explained.
He advised young boxers to take education seriously and also train well and hard.
