Boxing Ghana’s Sammy Heywood Okine Now Three Times WISA Award Winner

Ace Sports Journalist. Mr Sammy Heywood Okine was for the third time honoured at the 10th Women In Sports Association WISA Achievers Awards ceremony at the Accra Sports Stadium.

The experienced prolific writer and creative television producer and presenter who has been in the media for many years said he dedicated his award to female sports journalists and prays that they will come out boldly and fearless to promote female sports activities.

Mr. Okine has written about many female footballers before they first appeared at the FIFA World Cup.

He expressed his sadness that Madam Gloria Commodore disclosed her retirement and asked other resourceful people in the society to continue from where she left off because there are more talented sports women coming up.

He urged SWAG. NSA and the GOC to support WISA and appealed to corporate Ghana to sponsor the subsequent awards.

Sammy Heywood Okine aka General One has worked with various media houses like Graphic Communications,  Ghana Broadcasting Corporation,  Ghana News Agency. Sports Coin. Rex Image. P&P (People and Places)  Daily Guide, The Statesman. MillenniumMarathonSports Ltd, S & S Media Concepts. HSTV and Omashi TV.

He contributes to a number of online portals including Ghanaweb. Modernghana, Newsghana, Ultimatesportsghana. African Sports Media. Amaghanaonline and others

He is currently deputy Communications Director at the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) in charge of social media and was Press Attache for Team Ghana at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games where he contributed to Ghana winning bronze by Samuel Takyi.

Sammy Heywood Okine is an inspiration to many young journalists.

He once served as Deputy General Secretary of the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) and was honoured at the 48th SWAG Awards Night at the Accra International Conference Centre in 2023.

He loves all sports, but contributes more to boxing where he served as Communications Director of the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) and plays the key role as founder/ president of the Boxing Writers Association of Ghana (BWAG). He was also Communications Director of Ghana Kickboxing and Web editor of Ghana Swimming.
