The Ghana Boxing Federation (GBF) has begun a three day national individual boxing championship to select members into the national team, the Black Bombers.
The programme taking place.at the D.G. Hathiramani Hall of the Accra Sports Stadium is expected to attract over 100 amateur boxers across the country, The President of the Ghana Boxing Federation, George Lamptey said the amateur boxers well be competing for only a spot in each weight category of the 10 weight categories available.
According to Lamptey whose Federation was the only bronze medalist at the 2018 Commonwealth Games said the 10 fighters selected into the Black Bombers would begin camping immediately for the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo.
“We hope to get a medal in next Olympics and we must start prepations now’, he said.
Coach Kwasi Ofori Asare, the veteran trainer and AIBA Instructor, would lead a team of referees and judges in the selection.
Coach Ofori Asare, who is also the head coach of the Black Bombers is expected to select the best boxers to qualify Ghana into the Olympics in Tokyo on Saturday when the competition ends.
Boxers from Bukom, the home of boxing in Ghana make a majority of the potential Bombers.
