BERHANU: BOXERS WILL SOON BE PAID MAPUTO AND YAOUNDE PRIZE MONEY

He thanked the IBA President Umar Kremlev and his team for their cooperation

Good news for boxers from the Africa Boxing Confederation (AFBC) President Eyassu Wossen Berhanu (pictured).

It’s now officially confirmed the boxers will soon be paid their pending Maputo and Yaounde prize money.

“I’m very happy to announce our boxers’ prize money will be wired to their accounts in the next 20 days,” said a jovial Berhanu who also thanked the concerned boxers for their patience.

The AFBC boss made it clear it’s not the International Boxing Association (IBA) to be blamed for the delay but the previous regime for shamelessly “eating” the boxers’ hard-earned money.

“Honestly the IBA have been very good us since I took over leadership of AFBC, I met them in Dubai and agreed we have to sort out the boxers pending prize money once and for all.

“It’s unfortunate for a parent to eat the food meant for the children, this will not happen in my leadership,” said Berhanu.

“I’m very grateful to IBA President Umar and his team, since I took over power as the AFBC President I’ve been cleaning heaps of garbage left behind by the previous irresponsible leadership, you can’t believe it their account was empty when I came in. I’m working with relevant authorities to see to it that they are prosecuted.”

Berhanu said in fulfilling his election manifesto, he has already had discussions with Ethiopian Airlines, Coca-Cola and other multi-national companies to come on board to support African boxing.

“Things are looking extremely bright ahead, the companies are ready to support us chiefly because of credible leadership now in Africa boxing,” Berhanu told AFBC Communications in an interview.

“I want AFBC to become independent instead of all the time begging for assistance,” said Berhanu, reiterating his earlier pledge to transform AFBC into a multi-million organisation using his business acumen.
