Lusaka resident Sheriff Kasongo of the Democratic Republic of Congo is set to challenge the current World Boxing Organisation Africa Super Welterweight Champion Patrick Allotey of Ghana on Christmas eve 24 December 2018 at the Bukom Boxing Arena in Accra- Ghana.
Patrick Allotey is very optimistic of defending his belt that he won against the very experienced Frank Dodzi in April of this year 2018 via an impressive 6 round TKO and have had to defend it against against ‘hard talker’ Badru Lusambya (26- 4- 2, 24 KOs) from Kampala, Uganda in August, which he won via a UD.
PATRICK ALLOTEY
Talk of experience and Patrick Allotey is number one. The Ghanaian has so far chalked 42 professional bouts, with 39 wins and 30 of those victories by way of knockouts with three defeats.
With a KO ratio of 71 percent, Patrick Allotey is a swift and smart boxer who is probably in the form of his life after joining the stables of Cabic Promotions and Management.
His last defeat was in 2016 against Kazakhstani Kanat Islam (25 -0, 20 KOs) by UD in round 12 of 12 at the Almaty Arena, Almaty, Kazakhstan for the vacant World Boxing Organisation Inter-Continental Super Welterweight strap. But since then the Ghanaian has commanded back to back victories and is now aiming for the world title.
“I have prepared enough for the battle against Sheriff Kasongo; I do not want to promise a knockout but it can happen.” He stated during his last presser.
SHERIF KASONGO
With 78 rounds of boxing against Patrick Allotey’s vast 201 rounds, Sheriff has 15 bouts to his credit, out of three defeats, twelve victories with six of those victories coming by way of knockouts.
His knockout percentage is 40. His last fight was a ten round contest which resulted in a defeat to Twaha Kiduku(13-3-1,7 KOs) of Tanzania when he attempted the vacant Universal Boxing Organization (UBO) African Super Welterweight belt at the Kinesi Football Stadium, Dar-Es-Salaam, Tanzania.
He lacks the killer instinct to finish fights early as well as not possessing the sledge hammer type of punch but jabs well.
Summation
For Sherif Kasongo to defeat Patrick Allotey, it’s going to be a tall order, he needs to employ a good game plan, perhaps a knockout might do especially against the defending champion who gets better by the rounds.
Prediction
It’s a win for Patrick Allotey.
