Patrick Allotey, Ghana’s World Boxing Organisation (WBO) Africa super welterweight champion has asked Ghanaians to watch out for him to grab a world title next year.
Speaking to the media after making his first defence against tough UgandanBadru Lusambya, he said “I want to promise Ghanaians that by the end of this year or early next year, I will be a world champion”.
While acknowledging the potential of his opponent, the 27 year old Ghanaian, who won by a unanimous decision on the Cabic Big Fight Night, was not amused by the call by his opponent for a rematch because he believes Lusambya is no match for him in any day.
The Ugandan dared him for a rematch, saying that “in boxing there are three things: either you win, lose or draw. This time, I got a loss but I am here and ready for a rematch”, he stated.
In response, Allotey, a former WBC Silver champion and SWAG award winner, who successfully defended his title to improve his record to 38 victories and three loses, said: “Badru is a very good boxer, he is not a push over, he is experienced and never allowed me to hit him, but I must admit that he is not too much for me”, referring to his opponent, Lusambya as a difficult and tough fighter.
“Patrick Allotey needs a world title for mother Ghana so after I have finished this one, the focus is straight to the world title”, the Ghanaian stylish boxer said.
Richard Lartey Harrison, the new WBO Africa Heavyweight champion who also improved his record to 13 wins and one lose thanked his managers and promoters for giving him the opportunity.
He promised to move on to face the best of the world heavyweight boxers, where the money is big.
Emmanuel Martey, the WBO Africa Super Middleweight champion who was not so impressive, but won on a technically decision said he thanked God and his trainers and managers for making his dream come true. He promised to train haeder to defend the title and move on to become a world beater.
In another development, Emmanuel Tagoe has apologised to the president of the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA), Peter Zwennes, and other boxing stakeholders he might have offended through a disparaging comment he made while daring WBO world super bantamweight title holder, Isaac Dogboe, for a showdown.
Tagoe asked the GBA boss to forgive him because in the heat of issues certain comments are passed but upon realising his fault, he had regretted that action and wanted Mr Zwennes and anybody who might have been offended by his comments to forgive him and support him in his upcoming fight.
Among the personalities who watched three Ghanaians grab three WBO Africa titles were former president of Ghana, HE John Dramani Mahama, the Mayor of Accra, Hon. Adjei Sowah, former Accra Mayor, Hon Alfred Oko Vanderpuije and former Youth & Sports Minister, Nii Lante Vanderpuije.
