Mozambican two time -African champion and world silver medallist Alcinda Dos Santos scored a unanimous points win over Slovakia’s Jessica Triebelova in round of 32 welterweight fight to advance to the pre-quarters.

Alcinda now meets China’s second-seeded world welterweight champion Yang Liu on Thursday, August 1, in the round of 16. Liu, who also won silver at the 2019 world championships and gold in the 2022 Asian Championships, received a bye to the pre-quarters.

Alcinda and compatriot Tiago Muxanga are so far the only African winners, and are among the 18 African boxers still in the competition while five have been eliminated.
