African Games Accra 2023: AMINA MARTHA WINS KENYA’S FIRST MEDAL
Amina Martha (pictured) outpointed Botswana’s Phekie Bele in the bantamweight quarter-finals to win Kenya’s first medal in the African Games boxing tournament in Accra on Monday, March 18.
Amina is now in the semis against Nigeria’s southpaw Shurukat Kareem who beat 2022 Africa champion Sarah Haghighat-Joo of Sierra Leone.
Win or lose, Amina, a product of coach Benson Gicharu who’s the owner of Fight-4-Life slum club, is assured of a medal. In all it’s two medals for East Africa with Tanzania’s cruiserweight Musa Maregesi in the semis already courtesy of a bye.
