ALPHA BALDE SUSPENDED
▫️The AFBC Vice President has been locked out from all boxing activities for three years and fined 15,000 Swiss Francs
African Boxing Confederation Vice President Alpha Amadou Balde has been suspended for three years by AFBC’s Disciplinary Committee.
Announcing the suspension, the AFBC Disciplinary Committee chairman Said Mohamed of Comoro said Balde has been suspended because of what he described as his unethical behaviour during the African Games boxing tournament in Accra, Ghana. Other members of committee involved in the decision are Tunisia’s Wahel Haddad and Lesotho’s Mrs Mapule Mokoena.
In addition to being the AFBC Vice President, Balde is also a Board of Directors member and President of the Guinea Boxing Federation.
Mohamed also said Balde has been fined 15,000 Swiss Francs.
Went on Mohamed in his communication on Balde’s suspension:”For this case the AFBC Constitution is being applied as well as the IBA Disciplinary Committee and Ethics Code in substitution of the AFBC Disciplinary Code which lacks clarity on the matter.”
Mohamed said on May 16, 2024, they received a report on Balde’s behaviour from AFBC Vice President Ferdinand Ilunga Luyoyo who referred them to a report from AFBC Officials Committee chairman Rajiv Rajcoomar presented to the AFBC BoD on April 7.
In the report, Balde is accused of harassing Rajcoomar and interfering in his work.
“He made several calls to Rajcoomar attempting to influence the choice of officials during the African Games in Accra,” said Mohamed, adding:”He asked Rajcoomar to select the best officials when the Guinean boxers enter the ring.”
Rajcoomar, a serious professional, was not amused by Balde’s conduct which he likened to an inducement bordering on match fixing.
“He also promised to introduce him to AFBC President Eyassu Berhanu and be part of the new team that was being settled by himself (Balde) to support the new President,” said Mohamed.
Balde was given an opportunity to defend himself by the Mohamed team but he didn’t.
It’s understood in 2015 and in the 2022 Zonal Championships in Sierra Leone, Balde was accused of a similar unethical conduct.
