AFBC President Explains Why He’s In Nigeria

Africa Boxing Confederation (AFBC) President Eyassu Wossen Berhanu (pictured) has put the record straight on his main objective in the Nigeria tour.

Berhanu has made it clear his intention is not to persuade Nigeria return to IBA or not to join World Boxing because that’s not his responsibility.

“I’m the AFBC President, therefore I have the responsibility of taking care of Africa boxing especially looking into the welfare of the boxers,” said Berhanu.

“We came to Nigeria to forge unity in Africa boxing irrespective of the position taken by Nigeria. That’s their democratic right to join whichever body they want but as the African president I want us join hands to ensure progress in our continent,” pointed out Berhanu.

“Unity is very important if we’re to make progress in Africa boxing, let’s get rid of this bad blood in our national federations because it’s counter-productive in our strategic plan especially in this dawn of a new era in Africa boxing,” said Berhanu.

He said one of his immediate priorities now is to see that African boxers get their long overdue prize money in Maputo and Yaounde.
