AFBC PRESIDENT BERHANU CALLS FOR UNITY IN AFRICA BOXING

▫️ I’m committed to represent the interests of African boxing at regional and global level, says the AFBC supremo.

The President of the African Boxing Confederation (AFBC) Eyassu Wossen Berhanu has called on National Federation leaders to foster unity, tolerance and collective responsibility in this new era in Africa boxing.

Berhanu, in a statement availed to AFBC Communications, assured National Federations of his commitment to represent their interests at regional and global level.

“Rest assured I’m working towards the implementation of development strategies and initiatives aimed at advancing opportunities for our boxers worldwide in collaboration with the International Boxing Association (IBA) and other relevant stakeholders,” said Berhanu (pictured) and reminded the boxing fraternity in the continent currently there’s only one centre of power in African boxing.

“AFBC is the sole body in charge of African boxing, work with us or perish alone. As the head of AFBC I’m telling our NFs we’re open to constructive criticism, dialogue and fresh ideas to help us fast track boxing development in our continent,” said Berhanu.

“If anyone of you has suggestions or ideas channel them to AFBC but not externally. If you attempt to deal with IBA directly they’ll still come to me as the leader of boxing in Africa. Therefore let’s observe collective responsibility instead of some of us seeking unnecessary attention which we don’t need for now, and none of you should think that he or she has monopoly on development strategies or think that whatever you say is the right thing so we should implement your plans. We have our way of operation with my Board of Directors.

“Together we can overcome challenges, make our voices heard and secure a brighter future for our beloved sport. Nothing will be achieved through pride and individual efforts aimed at belittling our leadership. I’m firmly in charge with my team. The train has already left the station, we’re now in the journey of transformation and excellence in African boxing.”
