🇨🇩 Countdown to the Africa Elite Boxing Championships, Kinshasa, DR Congo, October 14-26
AFBC INSPECTION TEAM GIVES DRC THE NOD TO HOST EVENT
▪️ Competitions Committee chairman Solomon Kargbo very impressed with facilities
DR Congo has received a resounding approval to host the Africa Elite Boxing Championships from October 14-26 in Kinshasa.
Solomon Kargbo, the Competitions Committee chairman of the Africa Boxing Confederation (AFBC) said today
they’re satisfied with DRC’s facilities and preparedness to host this flagship event of the African boxing body.
Kargbo led the AFBC inspection team to Kinshasa from July 29 to August 2. Others in the delegation included the secretary of the committee Lukelo Willilo and AFBC board member Awil Ahmed Gele.
“We’re fully satisfied with the high standard of various sites visited,” said Kargbo, adding:”DRC federation led by the president Ferdinand Ilunga Luyoyo welcomed us warmly, and took us to the sites earmarked for this important tournament in our calendar, Luyoyo promised us they will stage the best ever Africa Elite Championships.”
Kargbo availed to AFBC Communications a summary of the sites for the tournament after a meeting with the hosts:
“After a meeting with the Local
Organizing Committee, the final sites selected are as follows:
1. The competition venue is the “Gymnase du stade des Martyrs “, 3,000 seats . A
venue with International standards.
2. The ” Complexe Sportif Tata Raphaël ” where the heads of delegations and the media will be accommodated.
The complex has more than 2,000 rooms spread across several buildings.
3. The AFBC President , the Secretary General and other VIPs will be accommodated
at Hotel Hilton Kinshasa.
4. The officials and the AFBC staff will be accommodated at Hotel Fleuve Congo.
5. The training sessions will be scheduled in a gymnasium inside the Complexe
Sportif Tata Raphaël.
6. The Local Organising Committee will have their volunteers at Ndjili International Airport to facilitate the visitors’ arrival.”
Plans are also underway for a live streaming of the tournament, and there will be plenty of dancing given that Kinshasa is Africa’s music capital with acclaimed bands such as Zaiko Langa Langa giving rhumba fans a full dose of entertainment.
Kargbo said more details on the tournament including the prize money at stake will be announce later.
