The WBO Cruiserweight African champion, Abraham Tabul, is scheduled to square it off with Evgeny Tishchenko at Uralets in the city of Yekaterinburg, Russia on June 15.
The fight will be the first for Tabul (16-1-1, 13 KOs), 28, after his fight with Patrick Ferguson for a vacant WBO cruiser-weight African title at the Bukom Boxing Arena which was headlined by Michael “one bullet” Ansah and Sherrif Quaye on March 8th 2019. Tabul was handed a unanimous decision win to Ferguson, to win the African title. Tabul recounted the fact that this has been the much awaited opportunity for him after winning the African title, and it has really come early for him.
“I’m grateful to God and my team for this opportunity. This is my next step to getting a higher rating in the division, to getting closer to the world title”. He said.
” I’m going all the way to Russian and annex the WBO international title to the African title to get a shot at the world title. It is an exciting time for me” he added.
Tishchenko (4-0-0, 2 KOs), 27, an Olympic heavyweight gold medalist at the Rio 2016 and Russia’s prospect in the cruiser-weight division will have a major opposition in this encounter. His last fight in February this year resulted in a unanimous decision win against Gregorio Ulrich, an Argentine.
Tabul is expected to arrive in Russia by June 13. Boxing Ghana.com will follow with updates on this fight.
