It looked all set, done and dusted for the Gypsy King after he demolished Dillian Whyte in 6 from the Wembley Stadium when Fury called it a day in his boxing career.
The unbeaten boxing giant Tyson Fury who saw Deontay Wilder as the only better competitor realized there was no need for him to continue fighting having knocked out the Bronze Bomber twice and putting an icing on the cake with a brutal KO over Whyte about two months ago.
“I’ve given everything I’ve got. I’ve been a professional 14 years, I’ve been boxing over 20 years.
“My time is to go out on a high. I always said that I wanted to walk away on top of the sport, and do it on my terms, and I didn’t want to be the person who said: ‘Well, I should have maybe retired two years ago,’ or whatever.
“I just wanted to walk out on top, go out with a bang. Nearly 100,000 at Wembley, with a knockout performance. They will not forget the Gypsy King in a hurry, and no amount of material assets or money will make me come back out of retirement because I’m very happy.”
Having said this few months ago, the Gypsy King has made a u-turn on the same note “…no amount of material assets or money will make me come back out of retirement because I’m very happy.”
He said “When this middleweight (Usyk) knocks out this bodybuilder (Joshua) again, there’s only going to be one man, isn’t there, to sort this out,” insists Fury. “What I would say to these people who want this fight to happen, you better have a big checkbook. To bring the big GK (Gypsy King) out of retirement for active battle duty, to redeem this country yet again, it’s going to cost.
“I am a prizefighter and I fight for prize. But it’s going to cost if you want me to go on a mission with this middleweight and show what a real heavyweight does to him, then that’s going to be expensive. You’ll have to have deep pockets and we can even talk then. The fight that’s happening is Joshua and Usyk. So, if I was ready to go tomorrow, they’re not because they’re fighting each other. Until then, the Big Mac’s gonna stay in Morecambe, training like a lunatic.”
With talks still ongoing for the Joshua versus Usyk rematch, boxing fans across the globe will be very much eager to know what Fury’s decision will be; whether to go one last time or reject whatever offer that comes.
Whether he was joking or not, Fury gave out one more condition to be back
“If you do get us a deal with these Middle East folks, can you at least get me free fuel for life,” Fury requested of his promoter. “I’m paying a fortune on petro!”
