63 AFRICAN BOXERS OUT including Ghana’s Theo Allotey the latest casualty
Only five African boxers remaining in the competition
Theo Allotey (pictured) is the latest African boxer to be eliminated in the ongoing World Boxing Qualifying Tournament in Busto Arsizio, Italy.
Allotey was today (March 10) beaten 5-0 by Korea’s 2017 world bronze medallist Inkyu Kim in the flyweight category round of 16.
Allotey’s defeat brings to 63 the number of African boxers who have been bundled out of the Italy qualifiers.
Africa now remains with only five boxers from the 68 – 48 men and 20 women – who entered the world qualifiers in Italy.
Two of the five remaining boxers – Namibia’s Tryagain Ndevelo and Morocco’s Soulaimane Samghouli – will fight later tonight in the featherweight division last 16 stage.
The other three – Nigeria’s Patricia Mbata, Cape Verde’s Ivanusa Moreira and Tunisia’s Islem Ferchirchi – will be in action on Monday (March 11) quarter-finals.
